Im like, we actually, might have a chance to get this done and to make a long story short, and unfortunately my twin brother thinks like I owe him a commission, for. Can you keep a competitive championship-caliber team across an era? Peter: Yeah, what really worked for me is I think I was just insatiably curious. And I think my job is kind of the overall business and operations to go is a rapport with them that again, in the best case I always think an NBA player, this is a human business. Peter Feigin: So, I mean, this is talk about, "You never know what's going to happen and where." Maybe I'm biased, but knowing you and seeing what you've done with the Bucks. This again becomes a platform of an NBA brand extension that just explodes with engagement. And I think the only thing anybody can control is their own effort and kind of their own dreams and where they want to go. John: This must be one of the greatest rides of her life seeing you do this whole journey, huh? We were in this really awesome mode of, oh, this is a startup, like this is a startup. Thats good. Peter: Im fairly, my mom was immersed in data analytics before data and analytics was business intelligence. Mike, you get it because you lived it. I wanted to eat some. He continues to build civic and business relationships around town through face-to-face interaction. Hes the president of the Milwaukee Bucks and hes a native New Yorker. We hired a great human capital person to build up the structure, but it was really best practice. Im probably like someone who gives everything away. Peter: Yeah. Before life as we knew it went on hiatus in March, Peter Feigin was occasionally returning to New York from Milwaukee for weekend visits and to rejoin The Run, which has become multigenerational. As you said, because of your mom and dads background, and because you had some of the rock stars of industry, as you say, Masters of the Universe, as your partners, you got to meld your experiences, your parents coaching, and then the rock stars came and they were also, you got a perfect soup of business experience to create this amazing success story. Peter: Probably, now with the way interesting curriculum has expanded and fun case studies and like where schools are. And then I think on a parallel track, youre really building an infrastructure. Back when the Feigins (now teenage) sons were much younger, Lasry suspected that Peter or Dan would give them a secret signal to scamper onto the floor if their team was losing. Peter Feigin: And I think, even when we looked at ourselves we're completely diverse, but we weren't anywhere near where we should have been on the leadership side of being a diverse leadership. When you are visioning this out, like you just said, human capital, a new physical capital, on the court, off the court, what were you using both singularly as you, as Peter Feigin goes, but also with your partners and the private equity guys, what were you using as your role model? And we skewed higher than most NBA teams. We've made it intimate with a 17,500-person crowd. I know youve said your pops passed. Are you allowed to talk about that, Peter? Peter Feigin: Hey, John thanks for having me. And they all live kind of the job we all live kind of each other's lives. You buy the Bucks, you help with that whole negotiation and you were living in New York, so you were married already and you decided. You talked about the head of human capital, and obviously Im proud to say, and Im only saying this with love, youre a native New Yorker like I am and were people, people. So, how do we figure out and reorganize on the senior leadership pattern. But talk about that nuance and being in leaders on the social injustice play. And it was a fantasy. This is the most, this is fun of life. Feigin can do all the PR he wants, but the most effective pitch to get fans into the new arena is out of his hands. And theyve got it on. I mean, now that I worked for three owners that are kind of in finance and private equity and guys who take real big bets and everything, I don't know if I was so much of a risk taker as I was kind of attention deficit and impulsive. Peter Feigin: Yeah, I think I moved, I graduated from college and had a job, had an opportunity for a job that was kind of nuts. John: You grew up on the Upper East Side, you are a native New Yorker, your brothers still back there. I don't know, being able to be a business person and kind of get away from your day job and go into a data room of a pro team seemed just the greatest thing I'd ever experienced. And nobody's going to question how great Milwaukee is." All of a sudden, 12 months ago, that went upside down, and with Giannis, it literally went international, national, regional, local, which is a great turnaround for us.". I mean, I probably publicly spoke for the first time in my life 100 times in the first 200 days to everybody from Lions Clubs to the barber shop, to the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts to kind of preach how big a deal it is for city this size to have and keep an NBA team.
